Site Selection / Project Evaluation
There are a number of different criteria to evaluate when considering a biomass to energy project. Here are some questions to answer that will help determine a projects viability.
Will the proposed power plant be able to connect to the power grid?
As the plant generates power, excess electricity needs to be able to be sold back to the power company. Having access to the grid and having a power purchase agreement in place with the local power company will enable the project to not only offset its electrical needs but generate revenues as well.
Is there a consumer of the heat by-product?
This heat could be a valuable resource to any end user. Using the heat in a manufacturing process, steam generation along with heating or cooling the facility are great ways to offset an on-going expense and significantly improve efficiencies up to 80%.
What is the biomass and regional availability?
One of the most critical components to a plant’s viability is feedstock. The cost, type, quantity, availability and proximity to the plant cannot be underestimated. A detailed evaluation of this information will be required prior to moving forward on any project. Long term agreements for feedstocks must be in place and the project must be close enough to those feedstocks to minimize or eliminate transportation costs.
What are the requirements from local, state and federal agencies?
Every project is different and requirements will vary. Many different entities will be involved in the permitting process and West Biofuels will provide all required documentation and supporting data to get the projects approved and built.
What type of help can I expect from West Biofuels?
